Homobiles is "a California NPO committed to providing secure and reliable transit to the LGBTIQQ community and its allies" [paraphrased]

In late 2019 we prepared a contest entry for branding Homobiles TV, a new documentary series following the day-to-day operation of Homobiles and its founder, musician and activist Lynn Breedlove, former front-man of 90's punk band Tribe 8.

We wanted our proposal to be fun, vivid and eyecatching, in no way reserved in its relationship with the gay community, while maintaining the look & feel of a future-proof contemporary brand. We wanted to use rainbow colours, the symbolism of the pride and trans flags to achieve this, and discovered a fantastic foundation to our concept in the Type With Pride project.

On 31 March, 2017, Gilbert Baker the creator of the iconic Rainbow Flag sadly passed away... To honor the memory of Gilbert Baker, NewFest and NYC Pride partnered with Fontself to create a free font inspired by the design language of the iconic Rainbow Flag, the font was named 'Gilbert' after Mr. Baker.

This font uses overlapping rainbow-coloured elements to create a bold, exciting typeface which we adapted to create the basis for our Homobiles wordmark. The standard font was split into its component parts, then trimmed and re-drawn in places for a more condensed silhouette. Colours were subtly altered for a more vivid palette, ensuring to represent all colours of the pride and transgender flags per the client's request.

The finishing touch came in an animated title with the new Homobiles logo, courtesy of the Type With Pride project and their pre-composed animated characters. Assembling and modifying the animated letters in Adobe After Effects added an extra dimension to this already meaningful and considered brand, and we're really happy with the outcome of this project as the winning design team behind Homobiles' new identity.
